This artwork is named for Harry Gordon, the good friend who gave Autin Wright the black walnut from which the sculpture was made. Wright feels a special collaboration and bond with the humble spirit of the wood. He was determined to preserve this connection and the special language that he heard, hoping to somehow share this song with others.
Autin carved the wood using traditional hand and power tools. H opens his heart and mind as he works, letting the wood spirit move him and take him to unknown places. Hours of sanding revealed the wood grain which seemed to tell stories without interruption. Sometimes the wood sings and dances with him.
Autin Wright believes that nature teaches and inspires and “Harry” is an excellent example of the collaboration between art and nature.
