Exhibiting artist Julie Harris will teach a Japanese Book Binding Workshop on Saturday, August 24th from 1:30-3:00pm. This workshop will focus on the concept and structure of the artist’s book as an art object. Wood, bone, clay, stone, animal skins, fabric and leaves are all materials used to make books before paper was invented. The book, as we know it, has been in widespread use for only 500 years, but books have been in existence for thousands of years. This course will re-discover these forms and materials, as well as that of a traditionally bound book. The Japanese Stab Binding technique will be taught combining stamps and other found materials to create books with paper. Participants can register for this free workshop on our website.
